The press have been raving about the all-new Marin Alpine Trail range, and we think that must be close to the perfect bikes for Enduro riding in Scotland. This is the carbon framed version, with progressive geometry, 29er wheels and 160/150mm long travel, burly suspension to suit our terrain.
Marin have lopped the best part of a grand off the cost of the range-topping C2, with a few sensible substitutions. The Rockshox Yari fork uses the same chassis as a Lyrik, so if you want to upgrade the fork, you only need to replace the internals, not the whole fork. The steering is courtesy of Marin's own label, but bars and stem are a pretty personal thing for a lot of riders, so it might well suit you not to be paying for something you're eventually going to change! Shimano MT420 brakes might not be the flashiest, but we'd rather have Shimano 4-pots over a bling-ier but less powerful and reliable brake any day.
Just over £3k for a modern, long travel carbon 29er with a well considered spec takes some beating!
