The El Roy is Marin's take on the modern aggressive steel hardtail that's become a staple of UK riding. A 63 degree headtube angle is about as progressive as it gets, but without any rear suspension, that number is going to get a bit higher once it's in its sag, so the bike isn't going to steer like a supertanker!

The El Roys' frame is made from 4130 Chromoly, a material close to our BMXer hearts. The frame has a 148mm Boost spaced back end with investment cast dropouts, so it's stiff where it needs to be. The frame tubes are double and triple butted and there are two sets of bottle cage mounts. The headset is an integrated drop in type and there's cable guides for the brake hose, as well as gear and dropper cables.

Marin have again set the standard for clever speccing, with a 140mm Z1 fork and Double Down tyres. 150 or 170mm X-Fusion Manic droppers are fitted depending on size,

We're seeing a lot of people build hardtails as nice and simple, easy-to-clean winter bikes, but this bike is so much more. 140mm is a perfect for a 29er hardtail that's going to be ridden down techy trails - enough to soak up big hits without ruining the direct, connected to the trail feel of a hardtail.
